Our Story

Built by people who know E&S insurance

We've spent years in the excess and surplus lines industry -- underwriting specialty programs, building rating tools, and navigating the operational complexity that comes with non-admitted business. We built ES Rating because we lived the problem.

The problem we saw

If you're an MGA or program administrator in the E&S space, you know the drill. You have a new program idea -- maybe a pollution liability niche in the Pacific Northwest, or an excess casualty book for a specific class of risk. You know the underwriting guidelines. You have the rate manual. You have the carrier paper. What you don't have is a fast, affordable way to get it live.

The enterprise platforms -- Guidewire, Duck Creek, Instec, Majesco -- are built for large carriers managing hundreds of thousands of policies. They cost six or seven figures to license, take 12-18 months to implement, and require dedicated development teams to maintain. For a specialty MGA spinning up a new program, that's not just overkill -- it's a non-starter.

So what happens? You build spreadsheets. You hire a developer to wire up a basic web form. You duct-tape together a quoting workflow from three different tools, none of which talk to each other. Rating logic lives in someone's head or in a macro-laden Excel workbook that nobody else can maintain. Every new program is a project.

We've been on both sides of that equation -- as the underwriters who needed the programs and as the people asked to build them. And we kept asking the same question: why does it have to be this hard?

What we built

ES Rating is the platform we wished existed. Describe your program to AI in plain English -- your lines of business, states, class codes, rating approach, limits structure -- and get a working rating engine, application forms, workflow rules, and document templates in minutes. Not months. Minutes.

The rating engine is fully deterministic -- no AI black box at runtime. Rate tables with thousands of class codes, territory factors, limit and deductible multipliers, minimum premiums, and submit thresholds. The same auditable, reproducible math you'd put in a filing, running in a system that's actually maintainable.

When it's ready, one click deploys a branded portal for your agents -- or gives you a full REST API for programmatic access. Stripe handles premium collection. SignWell handles signatures. Documents are generated automatically. The full policy lifecycle -- quote, bind, issue, endorse, renew, cancel -- is built in, not bolted on.

Our approach

Speed over ceremony

Enterprise platforms assume you have a 6-month implementation runway. We assume you need your program live before renewal season. AI handles the boilerplate so you can focus on the underwriting decisions that actually matter.

Straightforward pricing

No six-figure licensing. No implementation fees. No per-user charges. $500/month per active program, plus small per-use fees when your portal is used. Inactive programs cost nothing. Your own third-party integrations are free.

Secure by default

Enterprise-grade infrastructure on Google Cloud. MFA enforcement. Encrypted credential vault. Tamper-proof audit trail with before/after diffs. Every API key is SHA-256 hashed. Every action is logged. We take security seriously because insurance data demands it.

What makes us different

We know the industry

We're not a generic no-code platform trying to serve insurance as a vertical. We built ES Rating specifically for E&S programs -- with surplus lines taxes, stamping fees, broker-of-record letters, bordereaux, and ACORD form handling baked in from day one.

AI builds, math rates

AI is incredible for generating forms, templates, and boilerplate configuration. But when it comes to calculating premium, you need deterministic, auditable math -- the kind you can put in a filing. We use AI where it accelerates you and traditional logic where accuracy matters.

Your data, your keys, your integrations

Connect your own Stripe account, your own e-signature provider, your own third-party APIs. The Integration Builder lets you wire up ePayPolicy, IPFS, CoreLogic, or any REST endpoint using your own credentials. We never mark up or meter third-party calls.

No vendor lock-in

Export your program data, rating tables, and policy records anytime. We believe you should stay because the platform is good, not because leaving is hard.
